What a spendid view ! The Semois valley, I must admit that it is one of my favorite playgrounds in the Ardennes. I come at least 2-3 times a year to have fun here in the woods, but I had never been to Rochehaut and Frahan before during the beautiful fall colors. Something done now, in family, during the weekend of All Saints!
Explosions of colors, magnificient points of view, undoubtedly the best time of year to observe the Semois river and the crests of Frahan from Rochehaut. Next time I will try to come here to observe a white landscape, if luckily snow is falling!
We simply hiked with the children on the small walk of 6 km of the ladders, which starts from the church of Rochehaut. Super well signposted hike, hard to go wrong but I still provide you with the GPX track below. Do not hesitate to leave the trails a little bit to observe the points of view which are not always easy to find. Be careful, the ride is sporty, with a lot of vertical drop, ladders, stones, roots, it can slip! So be careful anyway! It is not for nothing that one of the best trails in Belgium is organized here every year (the Bouillonnante).
I must confess that it is a renowned and essential walk in the Ardennes, hence its (over) frequentation at certain times of the year, but even with people, you should not miss it. On weekends or holidays, come early in the morning, or prefer a visit during the week.
You can combine the visit with a little train ride through the Rochehaut animal park. We just watched the bisons and didn't do it because lack of time, but it seems great to visit it too. Finally, if there is a free place on the terrace (a place was released by chance when we arrived), I strongly advise you to satisfy your thirst at the restaurant "Point de Vue", with a good little local beer from Rochehaut, and a plate of local products. The food is great, the pint is delicious and the view is magnificent!
